Contraception (birth control)
is a regimen of one or more actions, devices, or medications followed in
order to deliberately prevent or reduce the likelihood of a woman
becoming pregnant or giving birth. Therefore contraception is the
utilization of various and sundry surgical procedures, devices,
practices, agents, or drugs with the intention of preventing conception
or impregnation (pregnancy). Methods and intentions typically termed
birth control may be considered a pivotal ingredient to family
planning. Birth control is a controversial political and ethical
issue in many cultures and religions, and although it is generally less
controversial than abortion specifically. |

A case is reported of a 41-year-old woman who was hospitalized for coronary occlusion. Changes in the EKG and
increases in LDH, leukocytes, SR, and temperature indicated a coronary infarction. The patient and her family had
no history of coronary infarction, angina pectorus, hypertension, or diabetes. The patient had previously suffered from
nervousness and anxiety and had experienced pains in the left lateral side of the chest, which were diagnosed as
functional. The patient had used oral contraceptives for 3 months prior to the attack, and it seems probable that
there is a causal relationship. (PubHealth.info Document ID: CONT9T 1076-06)
