Contraception (birth control)
is a regimen of one or more actions, devices, or medications followed in
order to deliberately prevent or reduce the likelihood of a woman
becoming pregnant or giving birth. Therefore contraception is the
utilization of various and sundry surgical procedures, devices,
practices, agents, or drugs with the intention of preventing conception
or impregnation (pregnancy). Methods and intentions typically termed
birth control may be considered a pivotal ingredient to family
planning. Birth control is a controversial political and ethical
issue in many cultures and religions, and although it is generally less
controversial than abortion specifically. |

Hong Kong: an evaluation of field workers and decision making in family
Family Planning Association of Hong Kong
Studies in Family Planning No. 30:7-12, May 1968.
This is a report on a novel study sponsored by The Family Planning Association of Hong Kong in order to get some
detailed analysis of how decisions to practice family planning were actually made, with special reference to the
activities of field workers. The Association commissioned the Social Survey Research Centre of The Chinese
University of Hong Kong to carry on the study under the personal supervision of Robert E. Mitchell, Director of the
Centre. There have been very few such studies done in connection with family planning programs and we are
indebted both to the Association and to Mr. Mitchell for enabling us to present this abridgment of the report. (author's)
