(Birth Control) and Family Planning".
Contraception (birth control)
is a regimen of one or more actions, devices, or medications followed in
order to deliberately prevent or reduce the likelihood of a woman
becoming pregnant or giving birth. Therefore contraception is the
utilization of various and sundry surgical procedures, devices,
practices, agents, or drugs with the intention of preventing conception
or impregnation (pregnancy). Methods and intentions typically termed
birth control may be considered a pivotal ingredient to family
planning. Birth control is a controversial political and ethical
issue in many cultures and religions, and although it is generally less
controversial than abortion specifically. |

Contraception (Birth Control) and Family Planning |
| England and Wales: general practitioners and family planning. |
| Studies in Family Planning. 1968 Jun;1(32):10-5. |
| There is little doubt that general practitioners are playing an increasing part in advising patients about birth control. |
| Eighty-two per cent said they spent more time discussing this than they did five years ago. Most of them, 78 per cent, |
| agreed that this was an appropriate task for general practitioners; some did relatively little and that rather reluctantly, |
| and about one per cent refused to have anything to do with it. There is still plenty of scope for extending their role in |
| this field. (PubHealth.info Document ID: CONT9T 1011-06) |
