PakMed) presents scientific information mainly
based on abstracts of articles published on a variety of public health issues/topics,
particularly encompassing
population planning, disease prevention, maternal and child health,
and communicable and
non-communicable diseases (like HIV AIDS, malaria, etc) that are
affecting a significant portion of population in developing and
developed
countries. Here you can find abstracts of articles published on a variety of public health
topics under category "Contraception
(Birth Control) and Family Planning".
Contraception (birth control)
is a regimen of one or more actions, devices, or medications followed in
order to deliberately prevent or reduce the likelihood of a woman
becoming pregnant or giving birth. Therefore contraception is the
utilization of various and sundry surgical procedures, devices,
practices, agents, or drugs with the intention of preventing conception
or impregnation (pregnancy). Methods and intentions typically termed
birth control may be considered a pivotal ingredient to family
planning. Birth control is a controversial political and ethical
issue in many cultures and religions, and although it is generally less
controversial than abortion specifically. |

Contraception (Birth Control) and Family Planning |
Family planning: hope for a nation.
Victor-Bostrom Fund Report No. 17, Fall 1973. p. 20-22.
The role of the Society for Family Welfare in Brazil (Benfam) in acting as a catalyst to all levels of the Brazilian
government for provision of family planning and related maternal and child health services is described. Until the
Brazilian national government accepts family planning, Benfam advances its cause in two ways: 1) countering the
propaganda of the pronatalists, and 2) providing family planning services to state and municipal governments and to
universities and private organizations upon request. Continued financial support from the IPPF as its single largest
annual grant recipient, and the winning of tax-exempt status in 1971 have further consolidated Benfam's position. In
addition, of the 9 agreements for provision of family planning services signed between Benfam and various Brazilian
governmental units in 1972, the most important agreement was reached with the state of Rio Grande do Norde, one of
Brazil's poorest regions. Much of the remainder of the article's content is devoted to refutation of pronatalist
arguments. (PubHealth.info Document ID: CONT8T 84-06)
