(a subsidiary of
PakMed) presents scientific information mainly
based on abstracts of articles published on a variety of public health issues/topics,
particularly encompassing
population planning, disease prevention, maternal and child health,
and communicable and
non-communicable diseases (like HIV AIDS, malaria, etc) that are
affecting a significant portion of population in developing and
developed
countries. Here you can find abstracts of articles published on a variety of public health
topics under category "Contraception
(Birth Control) and Family Planning".
Contraception (birth control)
is a regimen of one or more actions, devices, or medications followed in
order to deliberately prevent or reduce the likelihood of a woman
becoming pregnant or giving birth. Therefore contraception is the
utilization of various and sundry surgical procedures, devices,
practices, agents, or drugs with the intention of preventing conception
or impregnation (pregnancy). Methods and intentions typically termed
birth control may be considered a pivotal ingredient to family
planning. Birth control is a controversial political and ethical
issue in many cultures and religions, and although it is generally less
controversial than abortion specifically. |

Effect of oral steroid contraceptives on mammary fibroadenoma. [Der
Einfluss oraler Steroidkontrazeptiva auf das Fibroadenom der Mamma.]
Deutsche Medizinische Wochenschrift 98(14): 698-702. April 6, 1973.
Biopsies were taken from 790 randomly selected women of childbearing age of whom 233 had been taking oral
contraceptives. Fibroadenomas were found in 61 of 233 women taking contraceptives and in 152 of 557 untreated
women, a similar incidence. It was concluded that 1) the incidence of fibroadenoma is no greater in women on oral
contraceptives than in untreated women; 2) fibroadenoma with marked intracanalicular epithelial proliferation is
slightly more common in women taking contraceptives, but fibroadenoma without much intracanalicular epithelial
proliferation is significantly less frequent; 3) in women with evidence of hormonal ovarian insufficiency, fibroadenoma
is less common if they have been taking contraceptives for a long time; and 4) any shift in frequency distribution due
to contraceptive treatment is observed after 1 year of medication, without further significant change after 2 or more
years.(AUTHORS', MODIFIED) (PubHealth.info Document ID: CONT8T 584-06)
