ABSTRACT

Tests were made on 10 normal women with normal menstrual history. I n all 10 of the women, serum magnesium

concentrations were lower during the ovulatory phase of the menstrual cycle than during either the follicular or the

luteal phases. In 6 of the women, the decrease was significant at the p less than .03 level. Serum magnesium

levels declined in women taking combined oral contraceptives during the first 8 days of therapy. It is hypothesized

that the magnesium decline is the result of estrogen activity. (PubHealth.info Document ID: CONT8T 4533-06)
