ABSTRACT

The clinical use of hormonal contraceptives is examined in regard to the levels of clinical effectiveness,

pathological complications, and use for noncontraceptive applications, such as phasal regulation. The specific role

of estrogens in hormonal contraception is examined. Different amounts of estrogens, progestagens, and gestagens

are utilized to achieve different clinical effects, which also produce a variety of different effects and complications.

The course of pharmacological research on the clinical question of the ratio of estrogens to progestagens in the

content of hormonal preparations is examined in detail. The system of controlling and determining the exact

proportion needed is considered to be a question of great importance considering the variations of effect and

effectiveness obtained in present practice. (PubHealth.info Document ID: CONT8T 4504-06)
