Contraception (birth control)
is a regimen of one or more actions, devices, or medications followed in
order to deliberately prevent or reduce the likelihood of a woman
becoming pregnant or giving birth. Therefore contraception is the
utilization of various and sundry surgical procedures, devices,
practices, agents, or drugs with the intention of preventing conception
or impregnation (pregnancy). Methods and intentions typically termed
birth control may be considered a pivotal ingredient to family
planning. Birth control is a controversial political and ethical
issue in many cultures and religions, and although it is generally less
controversial than abortion specifically. |

| The clinical use of hormonal contraceptives is examined in regard to the levels of clinical effectiveness, |
| pathological complications, and use for noncontraceptive applications, such as phasal regulation. The specific role |
| of estrogens in hormonal contraception is examined. Different amounts of estrogens, progestagens, and gestagens |
| are utilized to achieve different clinical effects, which also produce a variety of different effects and complications. |
| The course of pharmacological research on the clinical question of the ratio of estrogens to progestagens in the |
| content of hormonal preparations is examined in detail. The system of controlling and determining the exact |
| proportion needed is considered to be a question of great importance considering the variations of effect and |
