Contraception (birth control)
is a regimen of one or more actions, devices, or medications followed in
order to deliberately prevent or reduce the likelihood of a woman
becoming pregnant or giving birth. Therefore contraception is the
utilization of various and sundry surgical procedures, devices,
practices, agents, or drugs with the intention of preventing conception
or impregnation (pregnancy). Methods and intentions typically termed
birth control may be considered a pivotal ingredient to family
planning. Birth control is a controversial political and ethical
issue in many cultures and religions, and although it is generally less
controversial than abortion specifically. |

Contraception (Birth Control) and Family Planning |
| Role of cervical cytology in family planning. |
| Journal of Biosocial Science 6(3): 383-385. July 1974. |
| At present there is no evidence that hormonal steroids, IUDs, or chemical contraceptives can cause cancer. |
| Constant research in this area is necessary. In India, where people still fear doctors and where women do not get |
| annual PAP smear tests, the cytological check-up could be carried out at family planning clinics. This smear |
| testing could indicate premalignant changes in the cervix, especially those which might be caused by an IUD. A |
| high level of cytological technology is a prerequisite. (PubHealth.info Document ID: CONT7T 3529-06) |
