Contraception (birth control)
is a regimen of one or more actions, devices, or medications followed in
order to deliberately prevent or reduce the likelihood of a woman
becoming pregnant or giving birth. Therefore contraception is the
utilization of various and sundry surgical procedures, devices,
practices, agents, or drugs with the intention of preventing conception
or impregnation (pregnancy). Methods and intentions typically termed
birth control may be considered a pivotal ingredient to family
planning. Birth control is a controversial political and ethical
issue in many cultures and religions, and although it is generally less
controversial than abortion specifically. |

The simple Lippes loop was used in 2000 patients for 1-8 years, for a total of 50,366 months in situ as an IUD.
There were 115 accidental pregnancies, equivalent to a Pearl index of 2.73 (5.7%). There were 173 expulsions
(8.65%). Calcium deposits were low (13 cases) in comparison with other studies. Cervical cancer was diagnosed in
8 cases by vaginal cytology and confirmed by histopathological findings: the rate of .20/1000 women is lower than
that prevailing in the general population. Continued use was 55.6% after 5 years and 67.2% for the entire 8 years of
the study. Tolerance and efficacy are considered very good.(AUTHORS', MODIFIED) (PubHealth.info Document ID:
