developed
countries. Here you can find abstracts of articles published on a variety of public health
topics under category "Contraception
(Birth Control) and Family Planning".
Contraception (birth control)
is a regimen of one or more actions, devices, or medications followed in
order to deliberately prevent or reduce the likelihood of a woman
becoming pregnant or giving birth. Therefore contraception is the
utilization of various and sundry surgical procedures, devices,
practices, agents, or drugs with the intention of preventing conception
or impregnation (pregnancy). Methods and intentions typically termed
birth control may be considered a pivotal ingredient to family
planning. Birth control is a controversial political and ethical
issue in many cultures and religions, and although it is generally less
controversial than abortion specifically. |

All the various theories concerning the causes of psychosomatic sterility are reviewed and the relationships between
the psyche, the brain, and the genital functions of women are analyzed. Such relationships could be exploited in
order to obtain a technique of hypnotic contraception. The possibility of creating conditioned reflexes at the
subconscious level, so that, when a woman does not want to become pregnant, either ovulation could be psychically
inhibited, or, when the sperm reaches the vagina, the subconscious could modify the pH of the vagina or the quality
of cervical mucus, preventing the passage of the sperm through the cervix, is considered. Spasms of the uterine
cervix or of the fallopian tubes have also been demonstrated to be induced by psychogenic factors. Hypnotic
contraception could be obtained also by self-hypnosis, inducing such spasms, which would prevent contact between
the sperm and the ovum, thereby avoiding fecundation and pregnancy. Hypnotic contraception could be highly
advantageous, being reversible, and would be harmless, economical, and morally acceptable. (AUTHORS'
