Contraception (birth control)
is a regimen of one or more actions, devices, or medications followed in
order to deliberately prevent or reduce the likelihood of a woman
becoming pregnant or giving birth. Therefore contraception is the
utilization of various and sundry surgical procedures, devices,
practices, agents, or drugs with the intention of preventing conception
or impregnation (pregnancy). Methods and intentions typically termed
birth control may be considered a pivotal ingredient to family
planning. Birth control is a controversial political and ethical
issue in many cultures and religions, and although it is generally less
controversial than abortion specifically. |

| 2 multidisciplinary approach courses in family planning being offered at the College of Medicine of Seoul National |
| University are described. A special committee was organized to plan the curriculum for the graduate seminar on |
| family planning. This treats family planning and maternal and child health, the study of human reproduction, family |
| planning and eugenics, the problems of sterility, the economic and social psychological aspects of family planning, |
| and family planning and environmental pollution. In addition to the family planning teaching, a human ecology |
| course is given to medical students as an integrated teaching program. This course covers: economic |
| consequences of high population growth rates; the social effects; including internal migration and rapid |
| urbanization; consequences for education; health, and welfare; and child development problems resulting from |
