Contraception (birth control)
is a regimen of one or more actions, devices, or medications followed in
order to deliberately prevent or reduce the likelihood of a woman
becoming pregnant or giving birth. Therefore contraception is the
utilization of various and sundry surgical procedures, devices,
practices, agents, or drugs with the intention of preventing conception
or impregnation (pregnancy). Methods and intentions typically termed
birth control may be considered a pivotal ingredient to family
planning. Birth control is a controversial political and ethical
issue in many cultures and religions, and although it is generally less
controversial than abortion specifically. |

Pill or topical contraception? [Pillola o contraccezione locale?]
Fici F; Businco E; Oliveti D
Clinica Europea. 1975 Jul-Aug;14(4):1-3.
This brief paper reviews the most common side effects and complications caused by oral contraceptives.
Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular effects, hepatic effects, lipid metabolic and blood coagulation effects, as well
as carcinogenic effects are briefly mentioned, but not discussed. Because of the public awareness of such
potential complications, thousands of women are going back to topical contraception with spermicidal agents. Such
a method, if properly used, has an extremely good rate of efficiency, and a very good antiseptic action.
