Contraception (birth control)
is a regimen of one or more actions, devices, or medications followed in
order to deliberately prevent or reduce the likelihood of a woman
becoming pregnant or giving birth. Therefore contraception is the
utilization of various and sundry surgical procedures, devices,
practices, agents, or drugs with the intention of preventing conception
or impregnation (pregnancy). Methods and intentions typically termed
birth control may be considered a pivotal ingredient to family
planning. Birth control is a controversial political and ethical
issue in many cultures and religions, and although it is generally less
controversial than abortion specifically. |

| Oral contraceptives are an effective and convenient method of responsible family planning which have had high |
| acceptance worldwide. This is a guide book on oral contraceptives for family planning doctors, nurses, paramedical |
| personnel, and health program administrators throughout the world. Types of pills available and their biological |
| functioning are explained. Evaluation of patients, selection of the correct pill, and pill distribution and monitoring are |
| discussed. Side effects and follow up treatment for pill patients are discussed. The benefits of pills are said to |
| outweigh any potential risks, especially unwanted pregnancy in countries where the hazards of pregnancy are high. |
