ABSTRACT

Postpartum Voluntary Surgical Contraception (VSC) programs in Indonesia can be performed in any service delivery

facility that has: equipment for minilaparotomy; equipment and supplies for anesthesia and surgical emergencies; a

good referral system; and trained personnel. Postpartum VSC programs in Indonesia were launched about 10 years

ago as an integrated part of postpartum programs. Generally, the postpartum population is highly motivated to accept

contraception. It is important however, that the decision to perform a postpartum tubectomy be made prior to labor

and delivery. 30% of the tubectomies performed in Indonesia were in the postpartum period. Procedural guidelines

for this operation are summarized. (PubHealth.info Document ID: CONT5T 2086-06)
