becoming pregnant or giving birth. Therefore contraception is the
utilization of various and sundry surgical procedures, devices,
practices, agents, or drugs with the intention of preventing conception
or impregnation (pregnancy). Methods and intentions typically termed

Recent advances of female contraceptive technology in China.
Chung Hua Fu Chan Ko Tsa Chih. 1993 Aug;28(8):467-471.
In recent years, China made significant progress in the area of population control and improvement of population
quality. Aggregate birthrate for women decreased to approximately 2.4 from 5.87 in the 1950s. According to an
estimate in 1992, 83.4% of all couples of childbearing age used contraceptive measures, demonstrating significant
progress in contraceptive technology. However, China faces serious population challenges and need to continue to
develop contraceptive technology so as to provide better technical assistance in terms of contraception. The
following is a highlight of new progress and research status in female contraceptive technology in China.
