ABSTRACT

The two-day Emergency Contraception (EC) Workshop was held in Bangladesh on December 9-10, 1997. A total of

65 selected participants attended the workshop, drawing the country's most prominent family planning managers,

donors, policymakers, researchers and women's health advocates. Internationally acclaimed technical experts and

health advocates were also present in order to learn about EC and discuss the possible scope of such methods in

Bangladesh. It is noted that the workshop aimed to provide information about the experiences with EC in

Bangladesh and neighboring countries, identify the scope of EC in the national program, formulate a plan for future

research and actions on EC, and develop a network of organizations for formulating programs on EC. This document

presents the proceedings of the Workshop organized by the Population Council and Concerned Women for Family

Planning in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Divided into five chapters, the first chapter discusses the objectives of the

workshop, the participants, the implementation strategy, and the outcomes of the workshop. Chapters 2-4 present

speeches, presentations, and discussions held during the Workshop. Finally, chapter 5 includes the program

agenda and list of participants. (PubHealth.info Document ID: CONT2T 1008-06)
